Industrial opportunities in the North: The November Conference 2012

The November conference took place in Harstad on November 7-8, 2012. The conference focused on industrial opportunities in the north with a special emphasis on oil, gas, ore and minerals. The conferences was organised in collaboration between Narvik Univeristy College, Northern Research Institute, Narvik research community, Maritime Forum North, Norwegian Oil and Gas and Norwegian Petroleum Society and gathered stakeholders from the oil and gas sector, service companies, suppliers and research institutions. Steffen Weber, the Secretary General of the Arctic Forum Foundation was invited to the conference to give a presentation on the EU’s perspective in the north. Read more…

Investment in the Arctic Region on the Agenda at the Arctic Region Oil and Gas Conference

The Arctic Region Oil & Gas Conference took place on 26 – 27 February 2013 at the Clarion Hotel in Stavanger, Norway. Steffen Weber, Secretary General of the Arctic Forum Foundation, participated as a speaker at the conference. The two-day event attracted regional and international oil and gas industry professionals, with 43 speakers presenting to 109 attendees from nine countries. Read more…

Fifth Polar Law Symposium in Rovaniemi

On September 6-8, 2012, the Fifth Polar Law Symposium convened in Rovaniemi, Finland. It brought together about 75 researchers, politicians and indigenous representatives to discuss the latest developments in the field of Polar law and governance. As an integrated panel of the Symposium, the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) hosted a workshop on how to communicate research to the media and policy-makers. This week the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) in the European Parliament voted on an opinion on the regulation on safety of offshore oil and gas prospection, exploration and production activities which are dealt with in the report by the leading Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).
